The Dominican Republic in 10 Pictures
Alright, it has been a week since we returned from the Dominican Republic and as I told you before: We had an awesome time there! We arrived in Punta Cana airport on December 9th and with Joanna's family we made a road trip along the entire Southern coast of the country. From Punta Cana to Santo Domingo and all the way to Bahía de las Aguilas and Pedernales. Quite a trip with jaw dropping ocean views all along the way and beautiful soft evening light that will make many photographers orgasm... oh yeah!

Because it was my first time I really didn't know what to expect. I knew about the resorts of course and that there would be beaches and palm trees. Add some of Joanna's stories and that was basically it. I can tell you now that there's a whole lot more to see outside of those resorts. We stayed for around three weeks and still only discovered a fraction of the awesomeness of the island. And then I'm not even talking about the food! My god, the food!
So, we will return for sure to the Dominican Republic after we finish our big adventure in ... a year or so? Right, the big trip. It's coming in a month and it still feels way too surreal so we try to prepare as much as we can to make it feel real. And I'm not talking about the trip itself. Just the crap that you have to deal with to even be allowed to leave a year. Can someone please tell me if that's just Belgian laws or...? I think I'll write something about that because it's crazy.
The thing is; we can't keep looking back on what has been and we really should start looking forward as D-day will be there real soon. That's why I'll wrap up our trip to the Dominican Republic for now with 10 of my favorite pictures. You already had two and here's the rest.

What can I say. We couldn't just go to Punta Cana and not stay in a resort, right? We had the perfect beach, cocktails and sunshine. It certainly is a good way to just let it all go and the colors of the ocean were beautiful. It was actually one of the first times that I took my camera to the beach and I like the results. The soft light in the evening was amazing.

Next up was the city and you should know that I really like cities to photograph. They're all different, bustling and interesting and I could spend hours just walking around taking pictures. The fact that we had Joanna's family to take us everywhere with the car was a nice plus and made the whole city experience double as nice.

The most beautiful beach in the Dominican Republic?
The best road trip we did was the one to Bahía de Las Aguilas, close to the border with Haiti. I didn't know what to expect but oh man, what a nice beach it was. Crystal clear water and barely anyone around because it's difficult to reach and far away from towns and tourism. I hope they can manage to keep it that way because they really have to make sure not to ruin it by building resorts and hotels on the beach.
On our way back to the capital we did a little side tour to El Hoyo de Pelempito.
